My device will not respond
A device that looks dead almost never is. Work down this list; each step is less convenient and more certain than the one before.
1. Rule out the look-alikes
Section titled “1. Rule out the look-alikes”- It may be switched off. After every install or update the device restarts switched off: the screen is dark and it stops advertising Bluetooth after a few seconds. Press the main button 5 times. If nothing happens, press once to wake it, wait a second, then press 5 times.
- A black Carta 2 screen does not mean it is off. The web app can still show the device connected while the screen is black. See My Carta 2’s screen is black.
- Install and Update can be switched off or locked. If the Update page says “Updates are switched off until bench validation”, the feature is off in this build or browser. If it says “Firmware is by invitation”, sign in with an email that has access (see Update).
- Charge it. Put it on USB for an hour first, then try again.
2. See what Bluetooth shows
Section titled “2. See what Bluetooth shows”Switch the device on, then look at the Bluetooth chooser in the web app:

3. Put the factory firmware back
Section titled “3. Put the factory firmware back”Use the official Focus V app: connect, and tap Update on its Update screen. This works whenever the device advertises, and it does not depend on any setting or access list in the Dialed web app. See Go back to stock. If the Focus V app does not offer the update, set FV revert to OFFER on a Carta 2 (menu), or turn off Let the Focus V app work in the web app’s Settings.
4. If it never advertises
Section titled “4. If it never advertises”The chip’s own single-wire programming port is never switched off by Dialed Control, so a device that cannot be reached over Bluetooth can still be reprogrammed from the outside with a small USB-serial adapter. That means opening the device and connecting to one pad, and a wrong erase can destroy the device’s serial number and calibration, so do not guess. Ask on the Dialed Discord first and say exactly what you see: what the Bluetooth list shows after 5 clicks, whether the charging screen appears on USB, and which firmware version was running.
