Update

The Update page moves a device from one Dialed Control version to a newer one. To install Dialed Control on a device still running factory firmware, see Install the firmware. To go back to stock, see Go back to stock.

The page checks that:

  • the device is connected and no session is running,
  • the battery is at least 30 %, or it is on USB,
  • you have confirmed that you will keep the tab open and the device close.

The app sends the new firmware over Bluetooth in windows, and the device confirms each one. The transfer is built to survive problems:

  • It is resumable. If the link drops, the update carries on from the exact byte where it stopped.
  • The device writes into the firmware slot it is not running from.
  • When everything has arrived, the device verifies the whole image from its own flash: the format, the checksum, and that it is built for this board. Only then does it become bootable.
  • The device restarts, and the app reconnects and reads the new version.

Your settings and your session log are kept across updates.

If Confirm updates on the device is on in Settings, the page tells you to press the button twice on the device. It waits up to two minutes.

  • The link dropped. Reconnect. The page shows “An update is half way” and resumes.
  • A session is running. Stop it first.
  • The image was refused. It was not built for your board. Do not try to override it.
  • The device will not start afterwards. It enters safe mode, where Bluetooth and updating still work, so you can try again.

You can choose a firmware file yourself, but it goes through the same checks, and a file not built for your board is rejected.
