Curve mode
Curve mode shapes the heat over time instead of holding one number. A curve is one to eight stages. Each stage has:
- a target temperature,
- a ramp time: how long to take getting there,
- a hold time: how long to stay there,
- a ramp style:
linear,ease-in,ease-outorstep.
Stage 1 is reached by the normal preheat, so its ramp time is ignored. The session clock starts when stage 1 is reached, exactly as a Classic session’s does.
Using curves
Section titled “Using curves”- Switch mode: on the one-button devices,
6 clicks + hold(three lime flashes means Curve). On the Carta 2, hold + and − together for 1 second. - Pick a curve: 1 click on the one-button devices steps to the next curve. On the Carta 2, hold on the home screen for the slot picker.
- During a session:
- One-button: 2 clicks skip to the next stage (on the last stage they add 10 s). A hold goes back to the previous stage, and on the first stage it stops.
- Carta 2: + skips to the next stage and − to the previous one.
- Offset the whole curve by up to ±30 °F: hold to dial on a one-button device, or + and − on the Carta 2.
- Edit your own in the curve editor.
Your curves
Section titled “Your curves”There are five user slots, written from the web app, plus six built-in curves that cannot be changed. You can duplicate a built-in into a user slot and edit the copy.
Built-in curves
Section titled “Built-in curves”| Curve | Stages (target, ramp, hold) | Idea |
|---|---|---|
| Terp Ladder | 450 °F, 15 s; 480 °F in 5 s, 15 s; 510 °F in 5 s, 15 s; 540 °F in 5 s, 15 s | Step up through the terpene range |
| Slow Climb | 460 °F, 5 s; 540 °F in 50 s (ease-in), 10 s | A long, gentle rise |
| Flavor 1st | 430 °F, 20 s; 500 °F in 10 s (ease-out), 25 s | Taste first, then finish |
| Boost Hold | 520 °F, 6 s; 480 °F in 6 s (ease-out), 40 s, with boost | A hot start, then a cooler hold |
| Cloud Chase | 480 °F, 5 s; 560 °F in 40 s, 10 s | Build to a big finish |
| Low n Slow | 340 °F, 60 s; 375 °F in 20 s, 60 s; 400 °F in 20 s, 60 s | A dry-herb session (flower limits) |
- Flower uses the dry-herb temperature limits instead of the concentrate ones.
- Boost gives extra power for the first seconds after reaching temperature.
Rules the firmware enforces
Section titled “Rules the firmware enforces”Whatever a curve asks for, the device keeps to these, so a curve can never run the heater beyond its limits.
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Stages | 1 to 8 |
| Temperature per stage | Clamped to the device’s flower or concentrate limits |
| Slope | Ramps are lengthened so the setpoint never rises faster than 1.1 °C per second (about 2 °F) |
| Falling behind | If the coil lags the setpoint by more than 3 °C, the curve’s clock pauses until it catches up, for 120 s at most |
| Total length | 15 minutes at most |
| Offset | ±30 °F for the whole curve |
Because of the slope rule, a curve stored on the device can differ from the one you drew: a steep ramp is made longer. The editor re-reads the curve after saving and shows you what was actually stored.
What the Focus V app sees
Section titled “What the Focus V app sees”A running curve looks like a normal session at the current temperature. The official app’s preset writes never change your curves.
